How the checklist is built

The full list is 111 tasks across six phases — 15 at eight to seven weeks out, 17 at six to five, 18 at four to three, 19 at two to one, 20 on moving day and 22 in the week after — and every one of them is printed in full further down this page, so you can read the whole thing without answering a single question. What the generator does is subtract. Sixty-three of the tasks apply to every move and are always kept; the other forty-eight carry one condition each, and your five answers decide whether they survive.

The conditions are exactly what they look like. Renting keeps ten landlord tasks — notice in writing, the lease read for move-out terms, the photographed condition report, the final walkthrough, the keys handed over, the deposit chased — and owning brings three of its own: listing, appraisal and a home inspection. A house keeps the nine tasks a flat does not have, from the yard sale and the mower drained of fuel to the sprinkler system, the garage door, the main water shutoff and the HOA. Pets keep fourteen, from the microchip address to the secured room on the day. Kids keep twelve: the school records, the withdrawal date, the comfort box packed "open first", and the enrolment at the other end.

The move date is used for one thing only: printing the date in full at the top of the list. The phases are relative to it, but nothing is scheduled against a calendar and no reminder is set. Your ticks are stored in this browser under a single key, so the progress bar survives a closed tab and does not follow you to another device. The percentage is ticked tasks over the tasks your answers kept, which means changing an answer changes the denominator.
